Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Where can I buy AdBlue in Malaysia?
There are not many diesel vehicles with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) System that require AdBlue. Therefore it is not easy to find AdBlue. Send us an email at [email protected], so that we can direct you to the relevant supplier in each state.
Can I add water into a diesel vehicle’s AdBlue Tank?
Please do NOT add water, mineral water, Reverse Osmosis water, urine, fertiliser or ammonia to the AdBlue Tank. It WILL damage your diesel vehicle’s Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) System beyond repair. Whoever tells you that it’s okay to do so clearly does not understand the mechanics and chemistry behind the SCR system.
What can I do if I accidentally add water or other contaminants into the AdBlue tank?
Firstly, STOP and DO NOT drive anymore.
Secondly, drain the AdBlue Tank of the contaminated contents. If the contaminants are sticky or leave residue, rinse with clean water then with AdBlue. Fill up the AdBlue tank with AdBlue (of course).
How much AdBlue does a diesel vehicle consume?
AdBlue consumption is typically 3–6% of diesel consumption. For example, a truck using 50 litres of diesel per 100 km will use approximately 1.5–3 litres of AdBlue. Heavy-duty trucks with Euro 5 or Euro 6 engines may consume up to 7–8%. Always check your vehicle’s manual for the manufacturer’s recommended AdBlue top-up interval.
What happens if my AdBlue runs out while driving?
Most modern diesel vehicles with SCR systems will alert you when AdBlue is low (typically at 10–20% remaining). If you ignore the warnings and the tank runs completely empty, the vehicle will reduce engine power (limp mode) and may eventually refuse to restart after you stop. This is a legally-mandated safety feature to prevent NOx emissions violations. Always top up AdBlue before the warning lights appear.
What is the shelf life of AdBlue?
Properly stored AdBlue has a shelf life of 12–18 months. In Malaysia’s tropical climate, heat degrades AdBlue faster — store it in a cool, shaded area away from direct sunlight. Avoid temperatures above 35°C for extended periods. Always check the expiry date on the packaging and use ISO 22241-certified products to ensure consistent quality.
Can I mix different brands of AdBlue?
Yes — provided both products are ISO 22241-certified with the correct 32.5% urea concentration, mixing brands is safe. ISO 22241 sets strict purity standards precisely so that different certified AdBlue products remain chemically compatible. However, never mix AdBlue with products that are not ISO 22241-certified, as off-spec urea concentration can damage your SCR catalyst and injectors.
Do all diesel vehicles in Malaysia require AdBlue?
No — only diesel vehicles equipped with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) exhaust system require AdBlue. This typically includes Euro 4M, Euro 5, and Euro 6 compliant trucks, buses, vans, and some passenger SUVs. Older diesel vehicles without SCR systems do not use AdBlue. Check your vehicle badge, engine specification sticker under the bonnet, or your owner’s manual to confirm.
Is AdBlue available in East Malaysia (Sabah and Sarawak)?
Yes — AdBlue is available in East Malaysia, though the number of distributors is smaller than in West Malaysia. AceRev AdBlue® by Interion ships to Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan. There are also local distributors in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. Check our Supplier Locations page for the latest listings, or contact us for a referral to your nearest supplier.
